Hannele Niemi

Hannele Niemi is Professor and Research Director at the University of Helsinki (UH). She was Professor of Education (1998–2016). As an Emerita, she became Research Director in 2017. At UH, she served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (2003–2009), Dean (2001–2003), and Head of the Department and Vice Dean (1998–2000). She also served as Chair of the University Board at the University of Lapland (2018-2023). She was nominated as the UNESCO Chair on Educational Ecosystems for Equity and Quality of Learning (2018–2026) and as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg (2026). Niemi has contributed to numerous international research publications, with over 400 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and has edited over 20 books. Niemi has been a scientific leader on several large international research projects, including the latest DAIA (Digital Academies in Africa, 2022-2025) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) in Learning (2019-2021). Her latest books, based on these projects, are: Towards Industrial Revolution and Sustainable Growth in Africa, Learning Ecosystems of the Future (2026), and AI in Learning – Designing the future (2023), which was awarded in China as the best education book by Springer Nature (China New Development Awards 2024).

Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the Faculty of Psychology, Southwest University; Vice President of Southwest University; and Deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress. Her research focuses on cultural and social psychology. Her research interests include the effects of multicultural contexts on psychological processes, group psychological processes, social cognition, and social determinants of mental health. She has presided over projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Fund of China, and Major Projects of the Key Research Institutes for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education. She has published more than 120 papers in domestic and international journals and has served as editor-in-chief or co-editor of 10 textbooks and monographs. Many of her research findings have been turned into policy recommendations for government decision-making.

LIN Danhua is Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the Faculty of Psychology, Beijing Normal University. She is a Designated Psychologist of the Chinese Psychological Society (CPS) and Registered Supervisor in the CPS Registration System. She currently serves as Chair of the Mental Health Education Branch of the China Health Promotion and Education Association, Vice Chair of the Behavioral Health Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, and Executive Director of the Psychological Education Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Family Education. She previously served as the Deputy Director of the Teaching Steering Committee for Psychology Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. As Chief Expert, she has presided over more than 20 major research projects, including Major Projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, and has published over 200 academic articles in Chinese and English. In the past five years, three of her papers have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers. She serves as an Associate Editor for the SSCI-indexed journals Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being and the International Journal of Mental Health Promotion. She has long been committed to research on the prevention and promotion of physical and mental health among children and adolescents from the perspective of positive development.

Prof. CHIANG Feng-Kuang is Vice Dean and Professor at the School of Education, Director of the Future Education Research Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Vice Dean of the Shanghai Institute of STEM Education for Youth. He currently serves as a member of the Ministry of Education’s Advisory Committee on Higher Education Digitalization and Innovation in Teaching Methods. He also chairs the International Executive Committee of the International Society for STEM in Education (ISSE) and previously served as a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on STEM education, artificial intelligence in education, robotics education, and active learning environments. With extensive experience in interdisciplinary curriculum development and K–12 educational innovation, his work bridges theoretical research with practical applications in school settings. He serves as an editor for five international journals. From 2020 to 2025, he was recognized by Elsevier as a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher in the field of education for six consecutive years.

Dr. Laszlo Major is the director of the Southwest Finland LUMA Centre and a researcher at the Department of Computing at the University of Turku. He previously headed the Department of Statistics at Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary). His research focuses on theoretical mathematics related to the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms. Alongside his academic work, he is actively involved in international education projects and the development of STEAM education. Dr Major is also committed to science communication. He has created and presented mathematics programmes for national television and produced educational films, including an award-winning film screened at an international festival.
